Tutoring

In addition to the Writing and Math clinics, course-specific tutoring is also available for many Castleton courses. In particular, we make every effort to provide tutoring for first and second year courses. Tutoring is free to any Castleton student.

The role of the tutor is to coach and stimulate students, not correct or complete assignments for them. Tutors help students gain an understanding of the material, supporting them as they develop as scholars.

Requests for Tutoring:
To request a tutor, students should complete and submit the Request for Tutoring Form (available here or in the Academic Support Center).

Students requesting a tutor are expected to:
• Check official college e-mail account for information about a tutoring request
• Come to tutoring sessions prepared and having attempted assigned work
• Arrive on time, complete tutor evaluations, and inform staff of any concerns

Becoming a Tutor:
To become a tutor, students must have the recommendation of their professor, have earned an A or B in the course, and completed and submitted the Tutor Application (available here or in the Academic Support Center). Tutors are paid by the hour and work study eligibility is not required.
