A Differentiated Course on Differentiated Instruction (Maximum Enrollment of 10)
Course Overview and Objectives:
This course is not limited to teachers with a specific level of experience with Differentiated Instruction (DI). Therefore, teachers will be divided into levels of learning based on their previous work with DI. The format will give each participant practical experience in being a student in a differentiated classroom. The novice group will discuss the philosophies on which DI is based, the tools used in DI, and will have the opportunity to learn how to creatively adapt lessons that can be used in a differentiated setting. The middle group will continue developing classroom materials with an emphasis on management strategies. The expert group will develop classroom materials and assessment tools for the DI classroom.
The format for the course will be determined after assessing each group’s needs. Teachers may complete the course in a classroom setting, with online correspondence, or through an independent study. Everyone will participant in some classroom and group meetings for sharing ideas or general communication amongst all levels. All participants will demonstrate their learning in a fall classroom observation by the instructor before a final grade is issued.
