Preparing Teacher Leaders As Mentors – Pathwise Mentor Training

Course Overview and Objectives:

This course is for teachers interested in becoming a mentor for a Level I Novice teacher in their school.  An important outcome of this weeklong training, and the following series of workshops and presentations, will be to improve the lives of beginning Level I licensed professionals and to help them enjoy their first few years in the classroom and matriculate into a Level II professional.  The July workshop series, led by Pathwise trainer Sue DeCarolis, will look at a model for mentoring teachers that matches the current Charlotte Danielson evaluation model. The course leader will discuss how to use this model to enhance and improve teaching. Participants will have the opportunity to be trained as a mentor during the week in August.

If there are any follow up session to be scheduled, they are designed to support the first year teacher mentor as they begin to employ the mentoring strategies with their mentee in year one.  One of the later sessions will be designed as an open workshop with the goal to update school districts and administrators about how the program is working.

This learning opportunity for teachers may be taken for three (3) graduate CSC credits or three relicensure credits.  Whether taking this experience for full course credit or for relicensure credit, each participant will have the opportunity to discuss their
needs with other teachers and school leaders during the school year.  Participants will look closely at the Pathwise Model as they work cooperatively to link this information to their own work with their designated mentee.
