EDU 6710-C10
Summer Science Assessment Institute – 2008
Course Overview and Objectives:
What: A professional development opportunity designed to promote ongoing regional collaboration in the development, implementation, and interpretation of high quality classroom and local performance science assessments. You will be expected to develop a task with a partner at the institute. Your partner should be at the same grade level or grade level cluster as defined by the VT GEs for science.
The institute will provide:
- A guided process to work collaboratively in the development of classroom and local assessments that focus on students’ conceptual understandings and competency with inquiry skills.
- Work in grade level teams to develop assessment. Performance tasks developed will be reviewed and then placed in an electronic bank available on the curriculum coordinators’ web site.
- Access to all assessments developed and included in the item bank.
- A structured time for science teachers from across the region and at various grade levels to discuss common challenges, identify successful practices, and share resources.
When: July 28-August 1 (Monday-Friday) with a follow-up session in the school year at a time agreed upon by the participants. The follow-up session will enable participants to use student work to inform revisions to the task.
