INQUIRY I Syllabus
EDU 1000 Introduction to Education 7 credits
EDU 1100 Education Technology 3 credits
GATEWAY I
Upon completion of Inquiry I, students must satisfy the requirements of Gateway I:
• earn a cumulative 2.75 GPA;
• identify a liberal arts major;
• make progress toward completion of General Education Program;
• pass Praxis I or meet the alternative requirements.
PEDAGOGY LABS IN CONTENT AREA COURSES:
The pedagogy lab experiences are one-credit courses connected to selected liberal arts courses. The labs provide prospective teachers with a series of opportunities to develop pedagogical content knowledge expected of exemplary teachers.
GATEWAY II
• pass the first portion of their electronic portfolio;
• earn a cumulative 3.0 GPA, a 3.0 in their liberal arts major, and a 3.0 in their liberal arts
 labs, and optional education workshops;
• pass Praxis II;
INQUIRY II
EDU 4710 Education Theory and Practice 14 credits
EDU 4871 Directed Student Teaching I 6 credits
EDU 4872 Directed Student Teaching II 6 credits
EDU 4720 Student Teaching Seminar 3 credits
Inquiry II is a year-long immersion experience dedicated to further connecting classroom, lab, and workshop learning to the authentic experience of teachers in schools.
GATEWAY III
To be recommended for licensure the student must:
• complete all college and departmental course requirements;
• pass both ETS Praxis I and II examinations;
• exemplify in conduct and attitude the professional dispositions expected in the teaching
profession;
• receive a grade of “B” or better in EDU 4871, EDU 4872 and a “Pass” in EDU 4720;
• complete all coursework with a cumulative 3.0 GPA and a 3.0 GPA in Education courses.
Licensure may be granted in the following areas:
• Elementary Education (K-6)
• Elementary Education (K-6) and
Special Educator (K-8, Grade 7-age 21, or K-age 21)
• Secondary Education (7-12) in:
English
Mathematics
Science
Social Studies
Spanish
• Art (PreK-12)
Music (PreK-12)
Physical Education (PreK-12)
