Karplus Islands Puzzle
Introduction: Here is a problem which deals with questions of air travel between four neighboring islands. Until very recently the only connection between the four islands was by boat, but now an airline is able to fly between some of the islands.
Procedure: You will be provided with a number of facts about these airline flights and on the basis of this information you will be asked some questions.
Note: When you are told that air travel is possible between two islands, this means that the trip can be made by air in both directions. It also means that the connection can be by direct flight or it can be made by way of stops at other islands in the group.
A map of the four islands is provided on the back of this page. You may make any notes or markings on the map that will help you remember and interpret the information given to you.
