Castleton Theatre Arts Department presents Getting Out

The Castleton State College Theatre Arts Department presents Getting Out by Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Marsha Norman, November 8-11, 2001.

"Getting Out" tells the story of Arlene, who after serving eight years in prison for kidnapping, robbery, and manslaughter must put her life back together.

Director and theatre professor Lisa Kramer says, "It's a powerful play that explores how all of us are trapped by what society expects. Arlene wants to let the old person go, but she learns that it's okay to embrace your old self and to move beyond the bad things. I think we all face that."

The part of Arlene is played by Lauren Martin of Woodstock, Vermont. Korrie Strodel of Liverpool, New York, is Arlene's younger self, Arlie. Writer and English professor Burnham Holmes of Poultney appears as Bernie, a prison guard.
