Unsure of what to declare as a major freshman year, Castleton offered Rachael Brazil a wide variety of appealing academic opportunities. Her passions for healthcare and the sciences ultimately drew Brazil to pursue her studies within the Natural Sciences Department with a focus in Biology.
“There are a variety of graduate programs that accept Biology degrees for their healthcare programs,” explained Brazil, “I love the versatility and multiple options I have with this degree.”
A Massachusetts native, Brazil enjoyed the many outside of the classroom learning opportunities that the rustic Vermont setting and campus had to offer.
“Having great environmental diversity allows for professors to take the classroom outside for different learning experiences,” said Brazil.
In addition to her classroom studies, Brazil served as a member of the Women’s Ice Hockey Team in the position of goaltender.
“Being part of a team allowed me to have 20 friends from my very first day on campus and being a student-athlete helped me develop time management and multi-tasking skills,” she said.
After graduation, Brazil said her personal growth throughout her time at Castleton is what she will remember most.
“The past few years allowed me to learn how to advocate for myself and push myself outside of my comfort zone,” said Brazil. “I have grown academically and personally, acquiring important life skills.”
