Shortly after turning her tassel and crossing to stage to receive her Bachelor of Science in Health Science degree, Marissa Smyrski made her way to the University of Rhode Island in pursuit of achieving a Doctorate in Physical Therapy.
Smyrski said she chose Castleton because of its close proximity to home and for the strength of the Health Science program that would prepare her for graduate school.
“The course work solidified that I wanted to continue on to Physical Therapy school, faculty members were there to support my endeavors, and my journey at Castleton helped me to have the confidence to chase after my dream,” she said.
As a student, Smyrski had many opportunities to apply her coursework as a tutor and teaching assistant. In the spring semester of her senior year, she also received the Academic Excellence Award for the Natural Sciences Department.
“I was definitely a name and not a number,” she said.
In addition to her coursework, Smyrski said the Castleton community and athletic culture added to her college experiences. Although she is now a part of another college community, she said the atmosphere of the small college with a big heart has not left her.
“It means a lot to me to be a Castleton alum. It’s the feeling of being part of the Castleton family, where connections continue after graduating,” Smyrski said.
