Outside the Classroom

The History Program at Castleton supports the University's commitment to service learning and civic engagement. Participating in real-world hands-on learning allows students to apply the skills they have learned in the classroom in ways that benefit the local community.

Students in history classes have completed projects and carried out assignments on behalf of the Rutland Historical Society, Dismas House of Rutland, the Rutland Community Cupboard, and a variety of charity and relief efforts.

The following history courses have periodically offered Civic Engagement credit:

  • Roots: Historical Perspectives on Global Problems and Issues (HIS 1010)
  • The History of Childhood (HIS 1710)
  • The History of Citizenship in a Global Context (HIS 1710)
