Castleton loses in the ninth, ending title run
Standish, ME- #3 seed Husson College (14-21) defeated #1 seed
Castleton State (26-12) by a score of 6-5 and advanced to tomorrow's
championship game against #2 seed Saint Joseph's College (29-8).
The Spartans held a 3-0 lead after two and a half innings but the Husson
offense came alive with two outs in the bottom of the third. FY Joe
Robicheau (Bucksport, ME) hit a 2-RBI double after SR Danny White
(Dover, ME) singled and SR Adam Sheehan (Bucksport, ME) drew a walk to
make it 3-2.
Castleton added a run in the fourth but the Eagles knotted the score 4-4
in the bottom of the frame on a 2-RBI double by Brett Garland
(Buxton, ME).
The Spartans took a one run advantage in the sixth and appeared to be in
control, holding a 5-4 lead going into the eighth but Garland drove in
the tying run to make it 5-5.
Ryan Bouck (Schenectady, NY) went 3/5 with 3 RBI in the game and kept
things alive for Castleton in the top of the ninth, stealing second and
third but was unable to score.
A lead off single by White and a walk for Sheehan put runners in place
for Husson in the bottom of the ninth. Robicheau moved them over with a
bunt and Castleton intentionally walked SO Nick Arthers (Belfast, ME) to
load the bases. Patterson drilled a sacrifice fly to center field to
score White and win the game.
Sam Adolphsen (Union, ME) struck out three and earned the win for the
Eagles and Rob Turner (Rutland, VT) took the loss. [Box Score]
