Castleton wins seventh straight, drops Plymouth State 15-5
Plymouth, NH - The Castleton State College baseball team won for the 10th time in 11 games, and their seventh straight, defeating Plymouth State 15-5 in non-league action.
The Spartans pounded out 14 hits on the afternoon led by Eric Anderson knocking in
three runs and reaching base four times on a single, double, triple and a
walk. Freshman Travis Bass, seniors Phil Puleo and Ryan Bouck, and junior Chris Ragis
all collected two hits apiece for the 18-9 Castleton, with
Bass, Puleo, Ragis and freshman Jon Handy driving in
two runs apiece.
Plymouth State received a two-run homerun from Josh Labossiere and a solo shot from Craig Carpenter to lead the Panther offense.
The Spartans scored in every inning except the sixth and eighth.
After both teams scored twice in the opening frame, Castleton State pulled
away with four runs in the second inning, one in the third, two in the
fourth and four more in the fifth to make it a 13-3 contest.
Senior Tom Cummings (Athol, Mass.) started on the mound for the
visitors and worked the first four innings, allowing three hits and three
runs (two earned). Sophomore Ron Cahill (Oswego, N.Y.) picked up the win in
relief after giving up one hit and one run in two innings while striking out
four.
Castleton is back in action tomorrow afternoon when they host Lyndon State in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 2:00 pm. [Box Score]
