Castleton swept in doubleheader at Chirstopher Newport

Newport News, VA-The Castleton State College baseball team dropped a pair of games at Christopher Newport University in non-conference action. The Captains took game one 16-4, and rounded out the sweep with a 15-3 win in the nightcap.

The Captains received a three-run homerun from Chris Despains and five scoreless innings from starting pitcher Brandon Berry in the win. Billy Bruneau doubled and scored one run, while Jordan Robare was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Garrett Bissonnette collected a pair of singles in the loss.

In the nightcap, Christopher Newport broke open a 3-3 tie with six runs in the fourth inning, thanks in large part to a three-run double off the bat of Trae Bailey. Ted Mills and Jon Laureano each had a single and one RBI for the Spartan offense.

Castleton falls to 0-7 on the season and will travel to Skidmore College for a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday, March 22 beginning at 12:00 noon.
