Maine-Farmington remains unbeaten in the NAC with 2-0 win over Castleton

Castleton, VT-The University of Maine- Farmington remained unbeaten in the North Atlantic Conference with a 2-0 win over Castleton State College. The Beavers received fantastic play in goal from sophomore Kaeleigh Barker (Chichester, NH) and a pair of goals from Amanda Pullen (Dexter, ME) to edge out a closely contested match.

Pullen scored her third goal of the season on a penalty stroke less than five minutes into the game to give the Beavers an early lead. Castleton countered with several opportunities, including six first-half penalty corners and six shots on goal but were turned away each time. With less than 10 minutes left in the first half Pullen scored her second goal of the game off from a Nicole Lyons (Cape Elizabeth, ME) assist. In the second half neither team could slip one past either keeper as Jessica Viens (Waterbury, VT/Harwood Union) stopped all six shots she faced in the Spartan cage.

Barker stopped seven shots on the afternoon, earning her fifth shut-out of the season. Viens combined with Trisha Clark (East Dover, VT/Brattleboro Union) (three saves) for nine saves. With the win Maine-Farmington improves to 7-1 (5-0 NAC). The Beavers will travel to Western New England College tomorrow for a 1:00 Pm battle of conference unbeatens. Maine-Farmington and Western New England have combined for the last four NAC championships, with UMF taking three straight from 2002-04 and WNEC taking the title last season. Castleton falls to 4-6 (2-2 NAC) and will travel to Kean University on Thursday, October 12 for a 5:00 PM non-conference game. [Box Score]
