Griggs leads Spartans to fourth win in five games
Castleton, VT – Carolyn Griggs scored a pair of first-half goals to lead the Castleton State College field hockey team to a 2-0 win over conference foe, Becker College.
Griggs struck 12:46 into the first-half, firing a shot past Becker goalie, Ciara Lawrence off from a perfect penalty corner from Kayla Blank.
Less than eight minutes later, off from another Blank penalty corner, Griggs worked a nifty give-and-go with freshman, Sarah Flore for her fourth goal of the season.
Lawrence stopped seven shots for the Hawks, twice making spectacular saves on scrambles in front of the cage.
Trisha Clark started her sixth game in goal for the 4-2 Spartans (1-0 NAC), although she did not record a save in her 35:00 minutes of work, she did earn the win. Clark was relieved in the second half by freshman, Siobhan Whittemore who recorded one save.
Becker falls to 1-4 (0-1 NAC) and is home on September 18th to take on non-conference foe, Salem State. Castleton returns to action on September 19th when they travel to New England College for a 4:00 pm non-conference affair. [Box Score]
