Castleton dismantles Elms College 8-0 on homecoming weekend
Castleton, VT-The Castleton State College field hockey team won for its fifth straight and eighth out of nine games, defeating Elms College 8-0.
Castleton controlled play from the outset, earning its first penalty corner just minutes into the game. The Spartans would rack up 19 penalty corners on the afternoon, while holding their guests to none.
Kayla Blank opened the scoring 18:29 into the game on an unassisted scramble in front of the net. Blank would follow that up just under fifteen minutes later when she converted after taking a penalty corner, and sending home a goal off a Calla Taft shot.
Sarah Flore scored the third Spartan goal of the first half with under one minute to play, deflecting one of Blank’s shots past Wasgatt.
Castleton would tack on five more goals in the second half, as Wasgatt was under pressure all game. The junior goalie recorded 13 saves for 1-9 (0-3 NAC) Elms College.
Molly Fraher and Marie Amaral would each score two in the second half as Castleton ran away with the homecoming win. Trishia Fellows added the eighth and final goal with a blast from just inside the circle.
