Castleton wins at home, 1-0 over Ramapo

Castleton, VT – The Castleton State College field hockey team took home a 1-0 contest over Ramapo College to even its record to 1-1 on the young season.

Ramapo had a 10-6 edge in shots, but Carolyn Griggs’s first half goal stood up to give the Spartans their first victory of 2007.

With 14 minutes gone in the first half, Castleton made good on their fourth penalty corner as Kayla Blank centered a pass to Griggs waiting on the edge of the circle. The junior forward blasted home her first goal of the season, just out of the reach of Roadrunner goalie, Diana Silva.

Ramapo would have several opportunities turned away as they came out with a fury in the second half. Sara Weimer and Ashley Zimmerman both had many chances, but Trisha Clark turned them all away to earn the shut-out.

Clark ended the day with eight saves for Castleton, while Silva stopped three. Ramapo falls to 0-2-0 on the season and is back in action next weekend when they travel to Wilson College to participate in a tournament. The Roadrunners square off at 11:00 am versus Wells College. Castleton takes to the road on September 5 in a 4:00 pm non-conference affair at Plymouth State. [Box Score]
