Blank scores a pair, Castleton remains unblemished in NAC play
Waterville, ME-Kayla Blank scored a pair of goals, including the game winner just 45 seconds into overtime to give the Spartans a 3-2 win over Thomas College. With the win Castleton improves to 10-3 overall and 6-0 in conference play.
After battling through a scoreless first half, sophomore Molly Fraher got the Spartans on the board 12 minutes into the second frame when she scored unassisted.
Blank tacked on her 11th goal of the season just under five minutes later and it seemed that Castleton had its sixth conference win well in hand.
Thomas would not go quietly however as Amy Miles scored with just over 11 minutes remaining to bring the Terriers within one. Miles would tack on teh equalizer with just 10 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime.
Blank wasted little time showing why the Spartans are so tough to beat. Just 15 seconds into the overtime the junior forward took a feed from her high scoring teammate Carolyn Griggs and converted the game-winner.
Castleton will take on Maine-Farmington at 12:00 pm on Saturday. The match-up will help clear-up the tournament picture as the Beavers are 5-1 with their lone loss coming at the hands of 5-0 Husson College. A win for the Spartans, in addition to a Husson win over Thomas on Tuesday, sets up a showdown between the two undefeated teams for home field advantage throughout the tournament on October 20 at Castleton.
