A staple of the Castleton athletics scene until it was dropped in the early 1990's, field hockey was reinstated as a varsity sport in 2003. The distant history includes several NAIA district V titles, while the more recent history is one which shows steady improvement. Since being reinstated the Spartans have become on of the top teams in the North Atlantic Conference.
