Castleton opens NAC schedule with 13-8 win over Emerson
Milford, NH-The Castleton State College men's lacrosse team earned its first win of the season with a 13-8 victory over Emerson College in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play at the Hampshire Dome in Milford, NH.
Jake Rick and Michael Martinez led the Spartan offense with three goals apiece. Phil Barry added two goals and two assists in the win.
Barry opened the scoring with a goal at the 12:30 mark of the first quarter. Castleton never gave up the initial lead as they extended the lead in both the second and third quarters. The Lions fell as far down as six before scoring two goals in the final quarter of play.
Emerson was led by Joe Greaney and Bo Dietrick, scoring three and two goals respectively. Three other Lions tallied single goals in their sixth loss of the season.
Mike Mamunes made four stops in recording the victory for the Spartans. Chris Wynne relieved Mamunes in the second half, ensuring the win with three saves of his own. Dean Smollar made 16 saves as he took the loss for the Lions.
Castleton (1-2, 1-0 NAC) returns to play March 22 as the Spartans travel to Daniel Webster for another NAC match up. Emerson hosts Salem State March 18 at 5:30 pm where the Lions will be looking for their first win of the season. [Box Score]
