Castleton splits North Atlantic Conference doubleheader with Elms College
Chicopee, MA-The Castleton State College softball team split a North Atlantic Conference doubleheader with Elms College, losing the opener 2-1, but bounced back to win the night cap 7-5.
Game One: Laura Rogers was the tough-luck loser, allowing just two runs on six hits. Rogers also did her part at the plate, collecting a pair of hits, but Elms College starter Tammy Tremblay struck out four Castleton batters and executed a squeeze bunt that led to the winning run.
Laura Emilo also added two hits and an RBI that scored Cassie Koehne in the fifth to cut the lead in half. It was not enough as Tremblay finished with the complete-game victory.
Game Two: Laura Rogers went 3-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored, including a double to lead the Spartans to the win. Allison Lamay added a pair of hits and two RBI, as Castleton pounded out 14 hits in the nightcap.
Tosha Whittemore went seven-strong innings to earn the win, allowing five runs (three earned) on nine hits while striking out two.
Laura Emilo smacked a two-run double to left field in the seventh inning to secure the win for Castleton.
The Spartans will travel to Thomas College on Tuesday for a North Atlantic Conference quarterfinal round match-up.
