Castleton falls to Massachusetts Institute of Technology 4-2 in conference play
Cambridge, MA-Castleton dropped their third straight conference game to M.I.T. 4-2, after defeating the Engineers 3-2 just six days prior in a non-conference match-up.
The victory lifted the Engineers' ledger to 1-3-0 overall and 1-2-0 in conference play while the Spartans fell to 1-3-0 on the year and 0-3-0 in the ECAC East.
Maryanne Diehm put the Spartans on the scoreboard 12:29 into the game when she connected on a feed from Colleen Senecal. MIT evened the contest 2:30 later on a 6-on-4 power-play goal by Amanda Hunter which was set up by Catherine Harding. The 1-1 tie would hold through the first intermission.
Stephanie Brenman gave the Engineers their first lead of the night by converting another power-play goal off a pass from Hunter in the ninth minute. The game would remain scoreless until the Spartans tallied their lone power-play goal at the 12:25 mark of the final period. Adrianna Riggio and Nicole Adams found Katelyn Greene for her second goal of the season.
Less than six minutes later, MIT's Harding answered with a 5-on-4 power-play goal that was set up by Hunter. Cristina Stefanescu closed the scoring with an empty net goal with 13 seconds remaining.
In net, Maria Prus earned the first win of her career while collecting 23 saves. Vanessa Carter made 61 stops for Castleton. [Box Score]
