Castleton still searching for first ECAC East win, loses 5-0 to Rochester
Rochester, NY-The RIT women’s hockey team concluded its 2006 portion of the schedule 10-0-0 after defeating ECAC East rival Castleton State (2-9-0, 0-9-0 ECAC East) 5-0 at the Ritter Arena on Sunday afternoon.
RIT got on the board at the 10:41 mark of the first period, as Jerica Young (Jay, NY) scored her third goal of the weekend, collecting a rebound in front and sliding the puck home. Kaley Ostanek (Binghamton, NY) and Emily McPherson (Pompey, NY) assisted on the goal.
The Tigers made it 2-0 just 23 seconds later, as Danielle Nagymarosi (Uxbridge, ON) scored her team-best 13th goal of the year on a penalty shot after being hauled down on a breakaway. Nagymarosi deked the goalie on the forehand and slid the puck into the open net.
RIT upped its lead to 4-0 with two goals just nine seconds apart late in the second period.
Stacey McConnell (Strabane, ON) made it 3-0 with a blast from the high slot at the 17:27 mark. Nagymarosi scored her second of the day, taking a feed from Maegan Geypens (Oshawa, ON) and ripping a shot just under the crossbar.
Breanna Dobbe (Poway, CA) needed to make 17 saves to pick up the win, her first of the year. Vanessa Carter stopped 27 shots for Castleton State over the first two periods of play.
Isabelle Richard (Malarctic, PQ) completed the scoring with 2:45 left in the third, pouncing on a rebound a burying it for her ninth of the season.
RIT was 1-for-8 on the power-play and held Castleton State scoreless in 12 attempts with the man advantage. [Box Score]
