Middlebury handles Castleton 7-1 in the mud
Castleton, VT-Middlebury received a four goal performance off the bench from Nora Tomlinson Weintraub (Burlingame, CA) and single tallies from three other players to defeat Castleton in their final home game of the season.
After spending the first 15 minutes of the game getting acclimated to a very wet and sloppy playing field, Laura Kwoh (Pittsburgh, PA) rebounded her own missed shot off the post and sent it home to break the scoreless tie. Just one minute later Kim Walker (Ridgewood, NJ) scored what would prove to be the game winner after she sent home a rebound of the post. The game would remain 2-0 until the 55th minute when Erin Oliver (Essex Junction, VT) took a lead pass from Abby Kurtz-Phelan (Denver, CO) to make it 3-0. Castleton would answer in the 62nd minute when Tracy Stala (Nanuet, NY) scored her 13th goal of the year assisted by freshman, Sarah Reaber-Spina (Starksboro, VT). After that it was all Middlebury’s Tomlinson Weintraub as she scored four consecutive goals to put the game out of reach.
The Panthers held a distinct 32-4 advantage in shots, and a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks. Castleton’s Kim Allen (Newtown, CT) had nine saves in the loss. Middlebury improves to 7-2-1 and is back in action Saturday, October 21 when they play host to NESCAC rival Bates at 11:00 AM. Castleton falls to 8-7-2 and is also off until Saturday when they travel to NAC foe, Becker at 12:00 PM. [Box Score]
