Spartans down Elms College 1-0 on homecoming weekend

Castleton, VT-The Castleton State College women’s soccer team defeated Elms College 1-0 to improve to 5-1 in North Atlantic Conference play.

Castleton’s Brandy White headed home her first collegiate goal on a Meryssa Wacholder corner kick in the 35th minute to provide the winning margin.

Elms College goalie, Shannon Donnelly played exceptional for the 2-7-1 (1-2-1 NAC) Blazers. Donnelly ended the day with eight saves, including one on a breakaway late in the game to keep Elms within reach.

Castleton keeper, Micole Bellimer made two saves on the afternoon to earn the shut-out.

With the win Castleton’s overall record goes to 6-5. The Spartans are back in action on Wednesday when they play host to cross-town rival Green Mountain College at 4:00 pm. Elms College returns to the pitch on Wednesday when they host Bay Path College in a 7:00 pm NAC match. [Box Score]
