Castleton defeats Green Mountain 2-0
Castleton, VT-The Castleton State College women’s soccer team scored 1:04 into the game and were never seriously threatened as they defeated Green Mountain College 2-0 in non-conference action.
Ashley Ledoux scored what would prove to be the game-winner on a perfectly crossed ball from senior, Tracy Stala. Stala lofted the cross from right to left, and Ledoux headed it inside the far post for her third goal of the season.
The Spartans would have many chances throughout the first half, as they rattled off 14 shots and tallied eight corner kicks through the first 45 minutes. Green Mountain keeper, Van Hartless stopped six shots in each half to keep the Eagles within striking distance.
It was more of the same in the second half as Castleton took 18 more shots and six corners. Ashley Hertford tallied her first goal of the year on a rocket from 20 yards out that could not be handled by Hartless.
With the win Castleton improves to 7-5, while Green Mountain falls to 4-7.
Castleton keeper, Micole Bellimer was tested just once to earn the shut-out.
The Spartans are back in action on Saturday when they play host to Lyndon State College at 1:00 pm. Green Mountain hosts St. Elizabeth on Saturday at noon. [Box Score]
