Castleton falls to Middlebury on the road, eyes big conference weekend on horizon
Middlebury, VT-The Castleton State College women's soccer team lost 10-0 at Middlebury College in a non-conference match-up. Eight different players scored for Middlebury, as the Panthers improve to 7-3-2 with the victory.
Ashley Pfaff scored the game’s first two goals, the second coming on a cross from Margaret Owen as Pfaff blasted a shot home from the right side. Caitlin Parker headed in a corner kick from Katie Ruymann at 30:07, before Ruymann scored a goal of her own 4:03 later as she quickly turned and fired a hard shot into the back of the next. Kirsten Lundquist beat Castleton keeper Micole Bellimer one-on-one for the final goal of the half at the 43:13 mark.
Gabriella Curbelo-Zeidman added two second half goals, Anne Ford scored one, while Jamie Mittelman and Elise Tarbi netted the first of their careers as the Panthers cruised to a 10-0 win.
Lauryn Torch was forced to make no saves to earn the shutout, while Bellimer (70 min.) and Cady Kerin (20 min) combined to make 15 saves for Castleton. With the loss the Spartans fall to 10-7.
On the horizon for Castleton is its final two conference games of the regular season. The Spartans take on Thomas College on Saturday at 1:00 pm, then battle it out with conference unbeaten University of Maine at Farmington. A pair of wins would force a tie-breaker scenario with Famington, Castleton and Husson atop the NAC standings. [Box Score]
