Bellimer’s scoreless streak ends, Castleton rolls on 3-1 over Maine Maritime
Castleton, VT – Sophomore goalkeeper, Micole Bellimer, and the Castleton State College women’s soccer team saw their NAC scoreless streak come to an end, but won their fourth straight conference match 3-1 over Maine Maritime Academy. The Spartans had played 270 minutes of conference soccer without giving up a goal entering play today. That streak ended in the 82nd minute as Maine Maritime’s Katie Hutchinson scored her second goal of the season.
In 2004 the team had a similar streak reach four games in conference play, and eight overall.
The Spartans received three goals from three different players on the afternoon.
Freshman Julianna Dorsey scored her second of the season in the 29th minute to give Castleton a 1-0 edge at intermission.
Nine minutes into the second half Caitlin Lewis struck for her first of the season of an Ashley Ledoux assist, for what would prove to be the game winner.
Erin Hanlon tacked on an unassisted insurance goal in the 78th minute for the 5-3 (4-0 NAC) Spartans.
Mariner keeper, Lacey Jackson stopped seven shots in the loss for 4-2 (0-1 NAC) Maine Maritime.
Bellimer ended up with five saves. Castleton and Maine Maritime are both in action tomorrow at 3:00 pm, the Spartans host Husson College, while MMA travels to Johnson State. [Box Score]
