Castleton drops season opener 2-0 at Plattsburgh State
Plattsburgh, NY-The Castleton State College women’s soccer team fell on the road 2-0 to Plattsburgh State in both teams’ season opener.
The host Cardinals jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when Kristen Lavigne scored under four minutes into the contest. Castleton keeper, Micole Bellimer, kept the team in the game with six first-half saves as the Spartans entered intermission trailing by one.
Helen Giroux would provide the Cardinals with a cushion as she sent home her first goal of the season on a Lavigne corner-kick in the 64th minute of play.
Castleton was stymied by the experienced Cardinal defense and could only must four shots on the road.
Bellimer finished with 11 saves in the loss as Plattsburgh State’s Kathryn Lind stopped all three shots on goal to record the shut-out.
Castleton is back in action on September 5, when they host Norwich University in their home opener. [Box Score]
