Castleton defeats Becker 8-1 in non-conference action

Rutland, VT-The Castleton State College women's tennis team earned a measure of redemption with a convincing 8-1 defeat of Becker College at Grand Slam Tennis in Rutland. The Spartans, who finished runner-up to Becker, in the 2007 NAC Championship, did not lose a set all match in the win.

Castleon swept through doubles competition, and lost just one singles competition when #2, Charla Klaas was forced to retire due to injury.

Michelle Podnecky continues to storm through her competition, defeating Allison Flynn (last season's NAC Championship runner-up in #1 singles) 6-0, 6-1 in #1 singles. Podnecky then teamed with classmate, Kate Bucci for an 8-3 win in #1 doubles.

Castleton also received singles wins in #3 from Bucci (6-2, 6-0), #4 from Emily Hallett (6-1, 6-2), #5 from Mary Kay Capone (6-1, 6-1), and #6 from Brittni Racine (6-0, 6-0).

The Spartans will take on NAC foe, Johnson State on Sunday, September 7 at 1:00 pm. [Results]
