Castleton battles to three-set win over Lyndon State

Castleton, VT – The Castleton State College women’s volleyball team defeated visiting Lyndon State College 3-0 in non-conference action. The Spartans easily won the first set 25-7, before battling to wins of 25-23 and 25-22 in the final two sets.

In the opening set Castelton coated to the win behind Jamie Lemieux’s four kills. In the second the Spartans withstood a late charge by the Hornets to earn the two-point win, as Lemieux once again tallied four kills. In the third set Castleton trailed 21-13 when Gina Nassivera took over serve for the Spartans. Nassivera promptly rallied the Spartans to 11-straight points, including six aces to take a 24-21 lead. After Lyndon State regained the serve on a Castleton attack error, the Spartans put the match away on the ensuing serve to earn the win and improve to 3-2 on the season.

Lemieux finished with 12 kills on 32 attempts to lead the Spartan attack. Nassivera wound up with 11 aces and five digs, while setter Hillary Greenfield chipped in 13 assists.

Castleton will play host to Husson University and Maine Maritime Academy Saturday, September 20 at 12 noon and 2:00 pm respectively. [Box Score]
