Featuring the debut performance by Arielle Holmes’ in a film based on her unpublished memoir of her life as a homeless heroin addict living on the streets of New York City. She was spotted panhandling by director Josh Safdie, who worked with her to develop her story into the film. Nicolas Rapold writes in Film Comment, “[Holmes is] a wild-haired natural performer and risk-taker who holds her own under a potentially exploitative premise.” Be warned, the film contains graphic material, including depictions of drug use and attempted suicide.
