Sen. Bernie Sanders is inviting you to join him at his “College for All Rally” at Castleton University on Oct. 10. The rally will be live streamed to college campuses throughout the country. Students in every state will be holding rallies simultaneously to show their support for his legislation to make public colleges and universities tuition-free.
Today, the average student takes on more than $30,000 of debt to get a bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university. Unfortunately, the dream of attending college remains out of reach for far too many citizens.
“We need to ensure that every young person in this country can get the education that he or she desires, regardless of his or her family’s income. Education is essential for both personal, and national, well-being. We live in a highly competitive, global economy. If our economy is to be strong, we need the best-educated workforce in the world. We won’t achieve that if hundreds of thousands of bright young people cannot afford to go to college, and millions more leave deeply in debt,” said Sanders, who serves on the Senate education committee.
“Fifty years ago, if you got a high school degree, odds were that you could get a decent job and make it into the middle class. But that has changed,” Sanders said. “While not all middle-class jobs in today's economy require some post-secondary education, an increasing number do. By 2020, two-thirds of all Vermont jobs will require some education beyond high school.”
Nationally, median earnings for a worker with an associate’s degree will be about $360,000 more over their career than the average earnings for a worker with a high school diploma. A worker with a bachelor’s degree will earn almost $1 million more.
Again, we hope you can join Senator Sanders for his College for All Rally on Oct. 10 right here at Castleton University. The rally will be held at 7 p.m. in the Spartan Athletic Complex’s Glenbrook Gymnasium at 190 University Drive.
If you are able to attend, please RSVP with Senator Sanders’ office, by completing this form.
