Bob Dean, a Queensbury, NY special educator and coach, lost his brother just over a year and a half ago to a heroin overdose. His father died five months after from cancer and, or as Coach Dean puts it, "a broken heart." As if that wasn't bad enough, heroin then took the life of his sister in January 2018.
All that can make you feel sympathetic for someone; losing three family members in under two years. But if you ask Coach Dean, that's the exact opposite of what he wants. Instead, he's chosen to make a difference, and make this a learning experience - not just for him, but others, as well.
Working closely with local doctors, school faculty, and staff, Coach Dean helps to make sure that when athletes are injured, they're prescribed the right amount of painkillers. He is also making sure to educate the students in his school talking in health classes. He is also working at a local and state policy level. Coach Dean also shares his story with hopes to educate and eradicate this epidemic of addiction.
Join the Contemporary Health Issues Class, Health & Physical Education Club, SGA, and the AOD Task Force as they welcome Bob Dean.
