Castleton has a variety of opportunities for students to travel and study abroad, including the fall Castleton Semester in the American Southwest, short travel courses with Castleton faculty, and full semester, year, or summer study abroad programs in hundreds of universities around the globe.

Applications being accepted now: Castleton Semester in the American Southwest, Fall 2015

Designed and led by a team of Castleton faculty, during the fall semester a small class of eighteen students travel and live together exploring the art, anthropology, archaeology, literature, history, languages, and contemporary social issues in the American Southwest. The semester is based in Santa Fe, New Mexico, with field trips and camping excursions to the Grand Canyon AZ, Mesa Verde CO, Chaco Canyon NM, Taos and Pecos Pueblos of NM, Bandelier and Pecos national monuments, the Four Corners Monument, the Hopi Mesas, and a rafting trip down the San Juan River in Utah. Students earn a full semester of credits in a variety of courses applicable to requirements for all degrees at Castleton, with costs of the program equivalent to a semester at Castleton, plus travel to and from Santa Fe.

Study Abroad FAQ's

Do students need to be able to speak a foreign language?

Many study abroad programs offer coursework in English and do NOT require that a student has prior foreign language knowledge. Beginner’s-level language courses are also available in many study abroad programs.

Can students use financial aid to study abroad?

Yes. The calculation of a student’s financial aid eligibility will be adjusted to reflect the costs of attending a study abroad course or program. Students should consult with Castleton’s financial aid office about the types of aid available, including supplemental loans and scholarships. Castleton students have also been successful winning national scholarships for study abroad.

Is study abroad possible for all majors or for athletes?

Yes, with careful planning. Oftentimes students decide a travel course or summer study abroad program is the best option.

Are there international internship opportunities for students?

Yes, Castleton’s partner organizations offer a variety of summer and semester-long internship opportunities.
