Thomas Dake’s roots
Thomas Reynolds Dake was born in what is now West Windsor, Vermont, on December 22, 1785. He had moved to Castleton by September 1, 1807, when he signed the Freeman’s Oath there. It is believed that he came to Castleton because of a connection with the Langdon family. The Langdons were neighbors of the Dakes in West Windsor, and two of their sons, Chauncy and Ebenezer, moved to Castleton, apparently in 1800 and 1803, respectively.
