Ransom-Rehlen House, classic Greek Revival, 1846-1847. Believed to have been built from plans smuggled out of England, this house has a nearly identical twin on Rte. 22a, just south of Orwell. Mr. Ransom, who made his fortune in Merino sheep, is reputed to have told his friends that, in building this house, he was going to make the Harris-Ward House (pink house across the street) “look like an outhouse”!
