Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a service offered by the Calvin Coolidge Library to support the research and educational needs of the Castleton Community by providing access to resources that are not owned by the library.
All Castleton faculty, staff, administrators, retirees and currently enrolled students are eligible to use the Interlibrary Loan service. A maximum of ten interlibrary loan items may be checked out at one time.
Books and articles are the most commonly requested items. DVDs, videos, dissertations, thesis papers, archives, conference papers, and rare items are typically more difficult to borrow so they may take longer to receive and they may have shorter loan periods as well as in-library use only restrictions.
Reference books and course textbooks are not available through Interlibrary Loan.
Articles generally arrive between three and seven days. All articles are delivered to patrons’ Castleton e-mail accounts. Books and non-print material generally arrive in 3-14 days. You will be notified that the material has arrived by e-mail and it will be available for pick up at the library circulation desk. Books are typically due in 21 days. Some material types have a shorter loan period.
The library recommends that you allow at least two weeks for delivery of ILL materials. Items may arrive within a week but we cannot guarantee a delivery date. It is not possible for us to guarantee that a video will arrive for a particular date. If you are planning a classroom showing, you must be flexible enough to use the video when it arrives. Video/DVD loan periods are generally one week from date of receipt.
Renewals may be granted by the lending library.
The library does not charge for ILL service. The library will contact you if the library providing the material does charge and request that you evaluate how important the material is to your research.
Borrowers are responsible for the return of borrowed materials by the due date. Also, the borrower is responsible for any charges from the lending library for the cost of replacement of damaged, lost or materials not returned.
Calvin Coolidge Library adheres to the U.S. Copyright Law (Title 17, United States Code, Sections 107 and 108) and CONTU Guidelines.
