Business major Alyson Marcucci is putting her industry knowledge to work far before receiving her diploma as she was recently named Town Treasurer in her hometown of Stratton, Vermont.
Having worked as the office’s Assistant Treasurer since the beginning of November, the Castleton senior constantly strove to promote herself and make a positive impression around town.
“I felt that people might see my lack of experience as a weakness,” said Marcucci, adding that she feared her age would affect voter opinions. “It turns out that many people saw it as a change of pace and an opportunity.”
Her Treasurer position has not only provided Marcucci with a job fresh out of college, but has also given her valuable hands-on field experience to prepare for future endeavors.
“I had to learn how to get my name out, and how to network with people in order to obtain the position,” she said.
Economics Professor Judith Robinson expressed her delight of Marcucci’s recent win and the example she has set for other students, referring to her as an outstanding student.
“I’m really proud of her,” Robinson said. “I think it’s a wonderful example what a Castleton student can do.”
Regardless of the outcome, Robinson predicted a bright future in the business field for Marcucci. She credits her ability to win such a position as a reflection of her dedication and personality.
“She’s very bright and very capable. Her future is bright,” said Robinson.
Marcucci also credits her quality education from the Castleton Business department and her business management experience as being contributing factors in the electoral win.
“My education at Castleton has enabled me to confidently perform many of the job duties, as many of them relate to my coursework,” said Marcucci. “I am very excited to start this new journey.”
