Joining other leaders in the field of survey research, the Castleton Polling Institute was recently admitted as a Charter Member of the American Association for Public Opinion Research (AAPOR) Transparency Initiative. By joining the Transparency Initiative, the institute is supporting the mutual goal of more effective disclosure of research methods by all organizations.
“The Castleton Polling Institute is committed to openness and integrity in its work. Joining the American Association of Public Opinion Research’s Transparency Initiative as a charter member reinforces and formalizes this commitment,” said Castleton Polling Institute Associate Director Amanda Richardson. “Transparency of research methods is important because it can help those who read results or use the data to better understand the quality and limitations of the data collected.”
AAPOR launched the Transparency Initiative in 2014 to encourage broader disclosure of research methods and promote methodological transparency through a proactive, educational approach that assists survey organizations in developing simple and efficient means for routinely disclosing the research methods associated with their publicly released studies.
The Transparency Initiative will benefit participating organizations by providing formal public recognition by AAPOR of an organization’s voluntary commitment to abide by the disclosure standards in the AAPOR Code of Professional Ethics and Practices. It will also benefit the public by providing more information with which to evaluate the quality of individual surveys.
