FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Who can use the Wellness Center services?
Any Castleton student (part-time or full-time), faculty or staff member.

Do I need an appointment?
Appointments are not needed for health services. Appointments are needed for counseling services, but walk-in's are also welcome.

What is the cost to use the Wellness Center?
Wellness Center visits are free to all registered Castleton students.

Does the Wellness Center provide health insurance?
No, but you can purchase the school's insurance by contacting Betty Moyer in Student Services at (802) 468-6070 or by clicking here to sign up for insurance through Castleton. Visit Consoldate Health plans at www.consolidatedhealthplan.com for more information.

I have no health insurance. Where can I go if I am sick?
If your needs are not able to me met through the Health Center, the staff can provide information about appropriate referrals.

Do you provide birth control, or test for pregnancy and/or sexually transmitted disease at the Wellness Center?
No we do not, but we can refer you to our local clinic or provide you with information. Please come in and see Nurse Deb, she will help you with any health needs.  
We offer free condoms and dental dams.

Can I get an absence note from the Wellness Center?
No. We do not provide absence notes. It is your responsibility to contact your instructor if you are going to miss a class.

What kind of health information is available in the Health Center? (Pamphlets, etc.)
The Wellness Center has lots of information on various health problems and topics.

If a student signs the FERPA, does this allow release of information from the Wellness Center in regard to treatments, etc?
No. If the student is over 18 years of age, we cannot discuss any information due to new government regulations, such as HIPPA. Students are encouraged to contact their parents with any health issues they may have. Students can sign a release form allowing the Wellness Center to share information regarding health issues. Forms are available at the Wellness Center. Please fill them out at the beginning of the school year.

Is transportation available if my student needs to go to the emergency room or a walk-in clinic?
There are taxi services located in Rutland that will bring the student to and from campus.

If my student has a mental health issue requiring ongoing treatment, will you be able to accommodate them?
No. We provide short-term counseling. We can provide a referral list of ongoing or long-term caregivers.
