Women's Studies Career Opportunities

What Can You Do With Women's Studies?
As women become more and more important as consumers, policy brokers and lawmakers, companies in industries as diverse as insurance to mass media, education to social workers, are hiring personnel with specific interests in serving their female clientele. That is why students who graduate with a specialization in Women's Studies have a variety of options and a world of opportunities.

You can continue your education at graduate school pursuing advanced degrees in Women's Studies scholarship, law, education, and medicine. A Women's Studies minor is excellent preparation for careers in such fields as public relations, advertising, journalism, law and government, social work, business, and counseling. Women's Studies enable students to think critically and to question systems of power and privilege in society. These are valuable skills in today's competitive job market.

Internships
An internship would incorporate knowledge from both the Women's Studies minor and the major academic discipline.

Possible internship sites at the local level include the Rutland Homeless Shelter and the local Planned Parenthood offices.

At the state level, students may have the opportunity to work with the Governor's Commission on Women, the Vermont Women's Fund and the Vermont Council on the Humanities.

At the national level, students could work with the Feminist Majority Foundation, the National Organization of Women, NARAL, the National Women's Studies Association, or even the national Planned Parenthood office.
