Course Description

First Steps in MusicTM was created by leading music educator Dr. John Feierabend of the Hartt School of Music. Through active participation in both music and movement activities, participants will learn how to further their young students' musical growth with joy, imagination, and wonder while preparing them for a lifelong of music learning. This course will include current research findings and the implications of that research on the development of an early childhood music and movement curriculum, collecting materials, designing teaching strategies, lesson plans, and yearly curriculum, as well as developing and promoting an early childhood program.  Materials and activities will be presented for children from birth to age seven.

Course instructor is Betsy Greene, a Feierabend Association for Music Education (FAME) endorsed Teacher Trainer and highly respected music educator in the Burlington Vermont Schools. This course is fully endorsed by FAME. All participants will receive a First Steps in Music Certificate of Completion from FAME.
