Course Description

This course explores innovative ways to use theatre arts tools, techniques and skills for teaching all grade levels and curriculum.

During each of our class meetings, there will be hands-on discovery, investigation and adventure while learning and exploring together theatre techniques and how to use them as a viable teaching tool for any subject area in a curriculum. A variety of printed aids and materials will also be covered.

As we progress in our experience and understanding in each of these techniques, participants will create practice lessons using them to address a variety of learning styles and probe into interdisciplinary/cross-curricular possibilities.

Participants will also design lessons directly related to their own grade’s needs and build a curriculum package in the subject of their choice using selected tools. The lessons will be designed with many levels of participatory elements for the students, allowing them to gain insight through a variety of learning methods, helpful to diverse learners.

These will tie directly into Common Core Standards' objectives, other state standards, STEM/STEAM, GNSS, as well as the development of soft skills, such as motivation, communication and self-esteem.

All educators can benefit from taking this course, but emphasis will be on teaching in the K-12 classroom.
