The Department of Health, Human Movement & Sport and Athletic Departments share the newly renovated 62,500 sq. ft. Spartan Athletic Complex, which houses a competition basketball floor, an additional gym/recreational area, two racquetball courts, a pool, two athletic training rooms, a 7,500 sq. ft. fitness center, three classrooms, a strength and conditioning room, 10 locker rooms, and faculty and administrative offices.

Castleton’s Department of Health, Human Movement & Sport has three classrooms located within the Spartan Athletic Complex. Two have the capacity to seat 24 students, and the athletic training classroom seats 16 students. Since the Glenbrook Gymnasium athletic training room is located adjacent to the classroom, all athletic training courses with a laboratory component are held here. All three classrooms are equipped with smart classroom technology, including computer, projector and document camera.

The two athletic training rooms in the Spartan Athletic Complex serve 29 varsity sports. The 1,920 sq. ft. Glenbrook Gymnasium athletic training room was renovated in 2006 and the 1,330 sq. ft. Spartan athletic training room was added in 2009 as a part of the new addition.

The Exercise Science Lab, which is located in the Jeffords Science building, is fully equipped for instruction, demonstration and student practice of competencies and proficiencies related to exercise testing and prescription.

The new Spartan Stadium, with its multi-use synthetic turf field, seats 1,600 people in the bleachers and includes office space for use by the press and athletic administrators.

Additional athletic facilities also include six lighted tennis courts, three multipurpose fields, and a baseball field and softball field.

Castleton Athletic Training students also have the opportunity to use the following off-campus facilities as a part of their clinical experiences:

The Middlebury College Sports Medicine Department is home to a 3,500 sq. ft. facility that serves 31 varsity, five junior varsity, and four club teams. With office space for five full-time staff members along with doctor exam space, the department also has the latest in technology, including ultrasound and electrical stimulation machines, iontophoresis units, as well as upper and lower body exercise bikes. The wet area, which also contains four whirlpools, has biofeedback units and hot pack units. Located in a close vicinity to both the College pool and fitness center, the department has access to both to use with rehabilitation.

At the Green Mountain College facility there are two certified Athletic Trainers that serve 12 teams and approximately 185 student-athletes. The 432 sq. ft. athletic training room contains three treatment tables and two taping tables. Additionally, the 200 sq. ft. wet room has an ice machine and two whirlpools. Modalities include two hydroculator units and one ultrasound/stimulation combination machine. Located across the hall is the Eagle Fitness Center, where all of the exercise and rehabilitation equipment it stored. Further down the hall there is an indoor pool, both facilities are accessible to students for rehabilitation purposes.

At Rutland High School, Fair Haven Union High School, Otter Valley High School, and Mill River High School, athletic training services are provided for all varsity sports.

Athletic Training Students also gain clinical exposure to healthcare at other medical facilities, including: chiropractic, emergency medicine, general family practice, orthopedics, and physical therapy.
