Outside the Classroom

The geography program at Castleton supports the university's commitment to service learning and civic engagement. Participating in real-world, hands-on learning allows students to apply the skills they have learned in the classroom in ways that benefit the local community.

The following geography courses have periodically offered Civic Engagement credit:

  • Geography for Teachers Pedagogy Lab (GEO 1210P). In the past, students have developed and taught geography-related lessons in math, science, social studies, and English courses in area elementary schools.
  • GEO 2150 Cultural Geography (GEO 2150). In past years, as part of the Green Campus Initiative, Cultural Geography students have maintained the campus community garden and helped to grow organic foods that have been served in Huden Dining Hall.
