Yes! Every Castleton student is strongly encouraged to participate in Castleton’s student activities. There are many social, recreational, and educational programs planned for students and by students. Students are also encouraged to start their own clubs.
The gyms, pool, and fitness center are available to all Castleton students as is the fitness center at Spartan Arena in Rutland. Students just need to show their I.D. card. Schedules are published online at the beginning of each semester and updates/changes are sent via campus email when necessary.
Students should get in the habit of reading their campus email on a regular basis. Also, watch for signs and posters on the campus bulletin boards, and look on Castleton’s website.
Yes, all students are allowed to have cars on campus for a fee. Commuter students can park in the commuter lots only, which are behind the Campus Center, the library, by Stafford Academic Center and Jeffords Center, and in the South Street lot. All cars must have a parking sticker which is available from the Public Safety Department. (These stickers must be validated every year).
Fireside Café, located in the Campus Center, is open daily from early morning until late at night. The Coffee Cottage, located in the Moriarty House, is normally open Monday through Friday. Commuters may also eat in the dining hall. All dining areas take cash or commuter meal plans offered through Sodexo, our campus dining service.
Commuters can study in the Calvin Coolidge Library (out in the open or in the private study rooms), the Campus Center (Informal Lounge), Leavenworth Hall, and the Academic Support Center on the first floor of Babcock Hall.
Adverse weather seldom cancels classes. Listen to local radio stations or call the class cancellation line (802-468-6043). Students should also know each of their professors’ policies on absences and on class cancellation.
