Travel Guidelines for Students Returning to Castleton University
Updated September 2020
As you may be aware, the state has issued mandatory guidelines for students traveling to our campus this fall. The requirements for individuals varies depending on which state and county you may be arriving from. Please refer to the following information to determine whether you need to self-quarantine and take the appropriate measures prior to and following your arrival.
A student traveling to campus by mass transit, or traveling by personal vehicle to Vermont from a county which demands a quarantine must do so before interacting on campus. If they complete either a 14-day quarantine period or a 7-day quarantine period followed by a negative test in their home state and arrive by personal vehicle with limited stops a student can arrive on campus without further quarantine restrictions. Or they can quarantine upon arrival. If a student has quarantined for 7 days followed by a negative test, they need to bring documentation of the negative test to the Student Life Office in the campus center. Please review the flow to help you determine the need to quarantine.
For students arriving mid-semester, Vermont’s Cross State Travel Map from the first Saturday of the applicable month will be used to determine quarantine versus non-quarantine counties. This is the applicable list for students arriving in September: https://accd.vermont.gov/content/travel-map-cross-state-travel-counties-2020-09-04
Students residing in Vermont should remain aware of Vermont’s Cross-State Travel guidelines and quarantine requirements should they need to travel during the course of the year. They should consult the date specific map/file that pertains to the timing of their travels outside of Vermont.https://www.healthvermont.gov/response/coronavirus-covid-19/traveling-vermont
A student who needs to quarantine, and is living off-campus should plan to occupy their off-campus location and strictly adhere to the requirements prior to being on campus. Any student may complete their quarantine requirement in a local private residence or hotel.
A student must complete quarantine requirements prior to moving into their fall housing assignment. Students should plan their trip to allow ample time for quarantine prior to the start of on-campus obligations. Please contact me should you have questions pertaining to your need for quarantine.
(Note: Testing in Vermont on Day 0 (within 48 hours of arrival) and Day 7 is required for Castleton University students and is in addition to quarantine requirements.)
Please remember that keeping our community as safe as possible is a shared responsibility for all of us. I appreciate your willingness to follow these safety guidelines and look forward to your arrival on our campus.
