Joan Lehoullier

Part-time Faculty



Joan has spent over 25 years working in intercollegiate athletics and campus recreation. Her career began at the University of Vermont where she spent time as an Assistant Director of Campus Recreation before being elevated to the Director position. She accepted the position of Director of Campus Recreation at the University of Massachusetts Lowell in 1993. In her 21 years at UMass Lowell she was promoted a number of times to Assistant Athletic Director, Associate and Senior Associate Athletic Director. Her responsibilities in Athletics included oversight of internal operations, sport supervision, student-athlete development and compliance. She was actively involved in multiple campus, conference and NCAA committees throughout her career. In addition to her practical intercollegiate administrative experience, she has spent many years teaching a variety of courses at the undergraduate and graduate level at both the University of Vermont and UMass Lowell.

  • Initiated NCAA CHAMPS/Life Skills Development Program for student-athletes.
  • Developed and implemented initial and continuing Gender Equity Plan.
  • Strategic planning for NCAA Division I transition.
  • Developed and instituted alcohol/drug education and testing program for student-athletes.
