Originally from Poultney, Vermont, Maya H. Kraus began her training in Rutland and at fifteen attended Walnut Hill School for the Arts in Massachusetts. She continued her education at Fordham University/Alvin Ailey Dance and Theater School in New York City and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance. Beginning her collegiate senior year, Mrs. Kraus danced and taught with the Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company in Fort Lee, New Jersey - bringing the art of Chinese dance to school children across the New York City metropolitan area. Kraus furthered her teaching career in New Jersey at The Roseland Performing Arts Academy, instructing ballet, modern, hip-hop, jazz and musical theater. Having worked with children on the autistic spectrum with the Academy and adults with developmental disabilities in the Arts Access Department of Matheny Medical and Education Center, Kraus is inspired to think beyond the restrictions of the body and mind. Maya is the director of Maple Dance Education in Poultney, VT and the dance instructor and choreographer at Castleton University in Castleton, VT. She resides in Poultney with her husband and two dancing daughters.
